Re: Homemade Thermosyphon Solar Hot Water Heater (Score: 0) by Anonymous on Friday, December 04 @ 09:29:10 GMT | | Dude why not just use copper tubing and coil it in a wood box with a plastic or glass cover? all that work just to put plastic PVC in glass tubes? The heat transfer from the sun to the plastic to the water would seem to be poor. You never see plastic used in refrigeration. |

Re: Homemade Thermosyphon Solar Hot Water Heater (Score: 0) by Anonymous on Monday, December 14 @ 19:46:48 GMT | there is another way that prevents the risk of shattering and can prevent the rush of air.
on one end under the cap there is a glass nipple (that is where the bulb is sealed) you can take a screwdriver and pry against the nipple and snap it off the air rushes in.
you can do the nipple snapping thing under water to prevent the rush of air.
fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and then hold the end of the bulb under water and snap the nipple.
that should draw the water into the tube leaving maybe an inch of empty space at the other end.
never try the water trick in a swimming pool or hot tube because there are going to be bits of glass that could puncture the liner of the pool or get into someone's foot. |
